Since January 2025, WeRis(H)er Pads has been on a mission to bring purpose to every purchase. An initiative of the WeRis(H)er Initiative, our program empowers adolescent girls and young women across Uganda by providing access to affordable, reusable sanitary pads while creating economic opportunities for those who make them.

Through hands-on training, mentorship, and entrepreneurship support, WeRis(H)er Pads helps young women build vocational skills, business knowledge, and self-confidence. Every pad purchased not only supports menstrual health and dignity but also fuels young women’s empowerment and community transformation.

  • 🖤 Step 1: Place the Pad

Pop the pad into your underwear black side up.

👐 Step 2: Secure the Wings

Pull the wings under the gusset of your underwear and snap the poppers together.

    ⏱ Step 3: Wear Comfortably

Wear the pad comfortably for 6–8 hours (depending on your blood flow).

  • Step 1: Rinse Immediately 💧🩸

    • What to do: Rinse your pad under cold water right after use.

    • Why: Cold water helps remove most of the blood and prevents stains from setting.

Tip: Avoid hot water at this stage—it can make stains permanent.

    Step 2: Soak 🛁🌿

    • What to do: Soak pads in cold water for 15 to 20 minutes.

    • Why: Soaking loosens any remaining blood, making it easier to wash.

Tip: Add a few drops of mild soap or lemon juice for better stain removal.

    Step 3: Wash Gently ✋🧼

    • What to do: Hand wash your pads with mild soap. Rub gently to remove stains.

    • Why: Harsh scrubbing can damage the fabric and reduce absorbency.

Tip: Machine washing is okay if pads are machine-safe—use a gentle cycle and a mesh laundry bag.

    Step 4: Rinse Thoroughly 💦

    • What to do: Rinse pads in clean water until all soap is gone.

    • Why: Residual soap can cause skin irritation or reduce pad absorbency.

Tip: Press gently—don’t wring too hard, as it can deform the pad.

    Step 5: Dry Properly ☀️🪁

    • What to do: Hang your pads to dry in direct sunlight.

    • Why: Sunlight naturally disinfects and removes odor. Proper drying prevents mildew and keeps your pad fresh.

Tip: Make sure pads are completely dry before storing to prevent mold.

    Step 6: Store Safely 🗄️

    • What to do: Fold dry pads neatly and store them in a clean, dry container or fabric pouch.

    • Why: Keeps pads sanitary and ready for your next use.

Tip: Avoid storing in damp or airtight containers.

    • ❌🧴 Avoid fabric softeners—they reduce absorbency.

    • 👕🚫 Wash pads separately from heavily soiled clothes.

    • 🔍 Check pads regularly for wear, thinning, or damage.

At WeRis(H)er, we began as a community-Based Organization committed to menstrual health and women’s empowerment. While our roots are in charitable work, we also recognized the need for a model that sustains impact beyond donations.

That’s why we established a social enterprise — a business arm that produces and sells reusable sanitary pads. This approach allows us to remain mission-driven while generating income that supports our programs and empowers local women through skills training and employment.

By blending community action with social enterprise, WeRis(H)er ensures continuity, dignity, and access — proving that sustainability is possible, stitch by stitch.
